On-Site COVID-19 Protocols

Keeneland is committed to delivering the safest sales environment and the strongest marketplace to our customers for the 2021 January Horses of All Ages Sale. With this in mind, Keeneland has implemented a number of protocols to ensure the health and safety of our customers and staff throughout the sale.

Please review this information closely as you make plans for the upcoming January Sale and continue to check back for up-to-date information.

Testing & Screening Requirements

Requirements for Consignors, Veterinarians, Farriers, Media, Keeneland Employees and Essential Staff

All Keeneland employees, consignors and staff, as well as veterinarians and staff, farriers, van representatives, media and any other essential staff who will be interfacing with the public on a daily basis must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 10 days of your first entry to the Keeneland sales grounds. Keeneland will provide testing on the grounds for customers at various dates (see below).

Requirements for Buyers

Buyers, Owners and Agents are not required to be tested but will be required to complete a health questionnaire prior to the sale. Testing will be available to buyers if requested. All patrons accessing the grounds (including buyers) will complete a daily temperature check.

On Site COVID-19 Testing

COVID-19 testing will be available on-site at Keeneland on the following dates for credentialed attendees to the January Sale. No appointment is necessary and you may arrive anytime during these testing windows. Please note that your COVID-19 test does not have to be taken at Keeneland; however, you must show proof of a negative test.

All testing will take place at the Keene Barn and you should enter through Gate 1.

Procedures

Sales Pavilion

Pavilion Seating

Capacity will be limited to 40% in the Sales Pavilion, including the Sales Arena. Buyers are encouraged to enter the arena just before they are ready to bid on a horse. Participants may not sit in the benches in the hallway.

Ticket Signing Process

Keeneland's ticket writers will be outfitted in personal protective equipment, including a face shield, and will provide sanitized pens and clipboards for each transaction.

Additional Bidding Locations

Keeneland has expanded the locations where customers can bid on-site. In addition to the Sales Arena and Back Walking Ring, buyers may bid in the Show Ring to allow for added social distancing.

Sales Offices

Sales Counter & Reserve/Update Desk

The Sales Counter will operate as normal but access to this area will be limited based on the number of people in the office at a given time. For the protection of our staff and patrons, plexiglass has been added throughout the sales offices, van and vet counters, and reserve desks to separate staff from one another and from patrons. Please follow signage and social distance markers in these spaces.

Keeneland Administrative Offices

Keeneland Administrative Offices are strictly closed. All paperwork may be submitted to the Sales Counter in the pavilion or to the Stable Office.

Sales Accounting

We encourage you to establish credit digitally through the Keeneland Sales Portal. Log in or create an account at portal.keeneland.com and request credit. This credit limit will apply to all on-site, phone and online bidding activity. The Sales Accounting offices will be expanded for increased space and distancing. Signage will be available to point you to this area located to the left of the Sales Counter.

Barn & Showing

The barn area will be open to credentialed prospective buyers to access, although we ask that you socially distance and avoid congregating around the barn while inspecting yearlings. Buyers will be asked to stay outside in the walking rings. Barns, including shedrows, will be limited to consignors and their staff only. Sanitizing stations will be available throughout the barn area.

We encourage you to vary your traditional inspection routines to alleviate congestion and congregating at common times throughout the day.

Consignors are expected to stay within their own consignment. Consignors are asked not to intermingle with other consignments that could be sharing barns.

Back Holding Ring & Sales Ring

The number of horses in the indoor back holding ring will be reduced to a total of two at a time for the health and safety of all participants. Sellers must limit this area to one groom, one showperson and one consignor representative accompanying each horse.

Other than the sellers of the horses, no one may enter the back holding ring or congregate in the chute area. To limit contact, the groom or showperson responsible for the horse will also lead the horse while in the sales ring.

Veterinarians

For the health and safety of all participants, Keeneland asks that all veterinarians limit their team to only essential staff in the barn area and carefully practice social distancing throughout the barns. Veterinarians and their staff are required to be tested for COVID-19 in accordance with testing requirements as listed above.

Catering Drop Offs

Consignors may accept catering drop-offs during the January Sale. Deliverers will not be required to have a credential or COVID-19 test. We do ask that these individuals pass the health screening process upon entry. There will be designated drop-off areas at the following locations where you should meet these caterers and other vendors: shuttle stop near Barn 49, Track Kitchen, North Gate entrance, location by Barns 2 & 3 where Entertainment Center Drive meets the parking lot
